By then, he hopes, his foot injury, which he sustained while playing with one of his two dogs, should also heal. President-elect Joe Biden slipped, fell and sprained his ankle while playing with his dog at his Wilmington, Delaware home on Saturday.
On Sunday, Biden visited an orthopedic surgeon – “with great caution,” as his office called him. The doctor couldn’t see any major fractures on X-rays. But what he recognized: the hairline cracks in two small bones in the foot, the so-called “cuneiform bones.”
It can therefore be assumed that Biden would have had to wear a boot-like orthopedic support shoe “for several weeks,” explained physician Kevin O’Connor in a statement distributed by Biden’s office. The doctor leaves open the question of whether Biden will have to wear the support shoe when it opens on January 20 and limp in the White House.

The US president-designate has always made it a priority to be fit enough for the presidency. During the election campaign, Biden published his medical history. His family doctor described Biden as “a healthy, strong, 77-year-old man who is capable of successfully fulfilling presidential duties.”
Now the 78-year-old has been injured while playing with his dog Major. In addition to Champ, Major is one of two German Shepherds the Bidens have adopted. Major joined the future presidential family in November 2018 and Champ has lived with the Bidens since December 2008, weeks after Biden was elected vice president.
Democrat Biden and his wife Jill want to move to the White House with herding dogs in January. The Bidens are also reportedly planning to have a cat.
