Trump pushes discredited election conspiracy theories by venting the first televised interview since defeat

The outgoing president, who still hasn’t conceded to Biden weeks after news networks called the race for the former Democratic vice president, dusted off his most ridiculous claims as Fox News host Maria Bartiromo sat without objection in the ‘live telephone interview on Sunday.

Mr. Trump claimed, without providing any evidence, that some states allowed voters to vote after election day; that the vote-counting machines have been rigged to favor Mr Biden; and also that the FBI, the Justice Department, and the federal judicial system were complicit in trying to cover up election fraud.

None of these claims are true. Even the president’s campaign legal team has never actually reported fraud in court because they know there is no case.

However, Trump has once again asserted baselessly that the 2020 election was “rigged” against him, minutes after Senior GOP Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri admitted on another network, CNN, that he elections were not in fact rigged.

“This election was rigged. This election was a total fraud, “Trump said.

Perhaps the most illuminating thing about the president’s thinking about the election was his disbelief that the courts, including several federal judges he has appointed over the past four years, have ruled almost uniformly against his campaign legal team in an attempt to overturn the election results.

“I wanted to file a lawsuit – Donald J. Trump, president of the United States against … you know,” said the president, unable to name who would be the defendant in that lawsuit.

“Put everything in one simple dress. And they say, “Lord, you’re not standing.” I say: ‘I have no position? President of the United States, don’t I have a position? What kind of justice system is this? “Mr. Trump said.
