Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has accused Israel of killing Iran’s leading nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakrizadeh. Friday said the killings would not affect Iran’s nuclear program. At the same time, Rouhani threatened to respond to the killings in a timely manner. The BBC reported.
Mohsen Fakrizadeh was reportedly shot dead in his car in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Israel has not yet commented on the allegations, which are linked to the killings. However, Israel has repeatedly accused Mohsen Fakrizadeh of leading Iran’s nuclear program. Fakrizadeh was one of the most famous Iranian nuclear researchers. He was the head of a research institute under the country’s defense ministry. His death should spark new Iran-Israel tensions in the Middle East.
President Rouhani gave a strong message in the wake of Saturday’s killings. He threatened that his country would respond to the murders at the right time. But for now, Iran doesn’t want to make bad decisions. He added that Iran’s enemies must know that Iranian people and officials have the power to respond to the killings. Rouhani gave this warning message in a televised speech. He called the killings terrorism.
In a previous statement, the Iranian president blamed Israel for the killings, saying they were carried out by Zionist militants. This murder shows how frustrated they are, they are drowning in a sea of hatred. The assassination of Mohsen Fakrizadeh will not slow down Iran’s conquests.
Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for adequate punishment for those involved in the killings. He made this call in a tweet on Saturday. He also mentioned the need to punish the forces behind the attack. However, he did not speak directly to Israel. Previously, Hussein Dehghan, Khamenei’s military adviser, also reacted strongly to the killings. He promised that those who killed Mohsen Fakrizadeh would be struck like lightning.
The New York Times quoted three US officials, at least two of whom are linked to the country’s intelligence services. They also believe that Israel is behind the killings. In 2016, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was heard nominated Mohsen Fakrizadeh. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called on the international community to condemn his assassination. Israeli embassies around the world have been isolated from the incident.
The killing of Mohsen Fakrizadeh will once again add to tensions between Iran and its enemies, the BBC reports. Presumably, US President Donald Trump was in the White House for a few days during his term. For the next president, the Joe Biden administration, loyal to former President Barack Obama, is complicating many things right now. Meanwhile, it was reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting in Yom, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. It is not known at this moment what he will do after leaving office. What is the purpose of the meeting? Although Saudi Arabia has categorically denied such a secret meeting, Israel has not said yes or no. However, Mohsen Fakrizadeh was killed a few days after the meeting.
Earlier this year, the United States killed Qasim Solaimani, the head of the Iranian Quds force, in a drone strike near the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The incident marked the resumption of hostilities between the two countries. Everyone from all sides called for restraint. In response, Iraq has launched several missiles at US installations. However, no casualties were reported in the attack. Now Iran has blamed Israel for killing Mohsen Fakrizadeh.
