Juan Argueta, 46, lives in Bajos de Choloma, north of San Pedro Sula. When authorities warned residents to leave the area before Hurricane Iota, Mr. Argueta told his family to go to a shelter. But he, like many of his neighbors, remained to take care of the family’s belongings and their pets.
