Jesus Christ: British archaeologist claims to have found Jesus’ house in Nazareth – People – Culture

Ken Dark, professor and archaeologist at the University of Reading (England), assured that the ruins of The house where Jesus lived during his childhood is located under the Convent of the Sisters of Nazareth, in Israel.

In his research, Dark was able to determine that, most likely, the structure he found is from the 1st century and that it was built by José, who, according to the expert, was not a carpenter as popular belief states.

“It is clear that whoever built the house had a very good knowledge of stone. And who should have done it was José, a man who is generally known as a carpenter but who may actually be a craftsman associated with construction, ”Dark told the Daily Mail.

The stone house had a patio, living room and roof terrace for outdoor activities. It also had a staircase leading to the second floor, where two rooms were located.

“The house was built with a piece of rock from a natural cave and another part of the rock was used to support the ceiling of the rooms,” added the archaeologist.

Dark established that the nuns of Nazareth probably inhabited the place at the end of the first century and this one later a cave church was built around the house.

“Perhaps in the fourth century, a rock church was built on the hill adjacent to the first century house, and in the fifth century a church was built over the house and the cave church,” Dark told Fox News.

The archaeologist also assured the American media that the 5th century church was probably the Byzantine Cathedral of Nazareth which remained there until the 7th century. He also stated that in the book “De locis sanctis”, written in the 7th century by the Irish monk Adomnán, reference is made to this temple.

“Its description corresponds exactly to the archaeological features of the site,” he added.

Dark’s work suggests that, in 1888, Victor Guérin, a biblical scholar, was the first to argue that the house was under the Convent and, based on that idea, the nuns ordered several excavations between 1930 and 1964, but no investigation was conducted on the house.

Then, in 2006, the professor began to study the place. In 2015 he published an article in which he suggested, for the first time, that the building was the home of Jesus in his childhood. Now he has reiterated this in the publication of his book “The Convent of the Sisters of Nazareth”.
