Mohsen Fajrizadeh was seriously injured in the assault on his vehicle, which included at least one explosion and shootings, and died in the hospital he was transferred to.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Defense, eminent Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fajrizadeh was killed this Friday 27-N in an attack in the city of Absard, in Tehran province.
Fajrizadeh, who according to Western intelligence led Iran’s nuclear program, appeared in UN sanctions resolutions because of his work on allegedly developing nuclear weapons.
The scientist was seriously injured in the assault on his vehicle, which included at least one explosion and shootings, and died in the hospital he was transferred to.
In the confrontation with the attackers, the security team that protected the scientist was also injured, indicates the defense note, published by the official media, which describes the attack as a terrorist.
Responsibility for the attack is unknown at the moment, but there are some parallels to the killings of other Iranian nuclear scientists recorded between 2010 and 2012 in the country.
The Iranian authorities then accused the Mosad, the Israeli intelligence agency, of being behind these murders, committed by bombs placed in the vehicles of scientists or by shooting.
To prevent Tehran from seizing the atomic bomb, an agreement was signed between Iran and six major powers in July 2015 to limit Iran’s nuclear program.
This deal, known as JCPOA in its acronym in English, has been seriously undermined since the United States pulled out and reset sanctions on Iran.
