Series that denounces the alleged corruption of former leaders seen with a tendency and try to “recycle” the current government.
The “Banquete” – the Angolan public television series (TPA) – which denounces the alleged corruption actions of well-known Angolan personalities is criticized by journalists, including the Angolan Portfolio and Ethics Commission.
The series is made up of a dozen reports and in the first two editions the TPA featured the names of characters such as Manuel Vicente, Zenu dos Santos and Joaquim Sebastião, as engaged in practices that harm the Angolan people.
Another eleven remain to be aired, but those that have already aired have been negatively evaluated by several journalists including Luísa Rogério, president of the Portfolio and Ethics Committee, for whom in the two programs broadcast by TPA they were found to be serious technical errors and a prejudice of the people targeted by the issues.
“All the people mentioned in the reports published by TPA should be heard mainly in investigative journalism, to give more credibility, and on the other hand, journalists should never bypass the courts, all parties involved in the matter should be heard,” he said. said. .
The president of the Cce, on the other hand, affirms that she will be convinced that the act of the TPA is authentic only if some figures linked to the current and clearly visible political power appear in these reports.
“They are the same TPA and the same journalists who recently denied civil society people who denounced these same facts, even these people were connoted to imperialism, like the people who tried to tarnish the good name of Angola”, he said.
“I think TPA is doing a” mea culpa “and it is assumed that it has always worked as a surrogate in relation to power,” added Luísa Rogeri.
“I will be convinced that the intention of the TPA is genuine only when there are also other figures in these reports who are very visible in the corruption scandals,” he said.
For Ilídio Manuel, another journalist, the TPA with the first two editions did not bring anything new, it will only have replicated some complaints that have already been made by the office of the Attorney General GR and even by some information portals on social media.
Ilídio Manuel believes that these reports are “orders” to whiten the image of the current executive.
“I have no doubts that these are orders and it is not even worth creating the illusion that it means journalistic openness in TPA” he said, stating that today “the cork law is becoming more and more evident with censorship and self-censorship scenarios marking the panorama of the Angolan media “.
Who does not rule out the hypothesis that this series of TPA reports called Banquete could be an order is the former president of Misa Angola, the journalist Alexandre Solombe.
Solombe says that for him the series aims to admit that there was corruption but that the current leaders are not part of that group.
“It is this background idea that we want to convey with this series of TPA reports,” he said.
“From the ethical point of view of journalism there is a great deal of partiality, there is no balance, you don’t feel the target of people who are there, it’s always from a partial perspective”, he added.
