The Portuguese driver is aware of the sentence of a bus accident in France

The Portuguese driver, who in 2017 was behind the wheel of a passenger bus that was lost on the way to Switzerland, causing four deaths and 28 injuries, will know the sentence of the French courts this Wednesday.

The driver was charged with murder and involuntary injury and the French prosecutor asked during the trial, which took place in early October, for a three-year suspended sentence for the accused.

According to the appraisals presented in court, the causes of the accident were avexcessive speed, mechanical problems and ice on the road.

In addition to the driver, two other Portuguese entities sat on the dock: AngeloTaxi company, a passenger transport company, and Rota das Gravuras, owner of the bus.

For each of these two entities, the French prosecutor has asked for a fine of 100,000 euros. Both companies belong to the driver’s father.

The accident occurred in January 2017 on the Central and Atlantic Europe Road (RCEA), at the level of the town of Charolles, in the district of Saône-et-Loire, “a road considered dangerous”, said the mayor of Saône-et. -Loire, Gilbert Payet, speaking with the Lusa agency.

About 90 firefighters in the region were involved in the accident due to the scale of the disaster. All passengers were of Portuguese origin and five people were seriously injured, including a 2-year-old boy and the driver himself.
