Before Portugal only seven other countries: Luxembourg, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Poland and Lithuania.
At the bottom of the ranking there are islands or Nordic countries, namely Norway, Ireland, Finland and Iceland, the latter with only 55.7 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
As for the deaths, Portugal drops by some positions and is in 14th place for the number of deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants (9.7 deaths). The Czech Republic leads in this specific point, followed by Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary and Italy.
However, Portugal appears ahead of other countries where the pandemic has the most saturated health systems, from the UK or neighboring Spain.
Looking at the map of Europe released on Monday by ECDC, it is possible to see the evolution of the pandemic by region. Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium and northern Italy and southern France are home to the most affected regions, with over 960.0 reported cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Outside of this central area, the northern region of Portugal he is one of the few that reaches these values. In recent weeks the Northern region has been the most harassed in the country in recent weeks, with peaks also recorded in the most affected countries in Europe.
But the map reveals that the Northern region is also the one that presents, at this moment, the worst scenario of the entire Iberian Peninsula regarding the number of confirmed cases in proportion.
Of the remaining regions of Portugal, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley are the second most affected, with between 480 and 959.9 confirmed cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, at the same level as almost all regions of the Spanish territory, for example.
Looking to Northern Europe, highlight to Finland, which has had a residual evolution of the pandemic in the last 14 days, registering less than 20.0 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in most of the territory.
