German police arrested a man suspected of murder and cannibalism after the bones of a victim were found in a park in Berlin, the BBC reports.
Forensics have established that the bones belong to a 44-year-old man who disappeared two months ago.
The dogs led law enforcement to the suspect’s apartment in Berlin, according to German media. He is said to be a 41-year-old math teacher.
The human remains were found on November 8 by people walking around the park.
A policeman told the BZ newspaper that one of the bones was completely devoid of flesh and that there were other clues that led him to suspect that Stefan T. was the victim of a cannibal.
The alleged killer, Stefan R., allegedly visited “relevant chat rooms,” he wrote to the DPA news agency. According to German law, the names of the suspects are not revealed during the investigation.
The victim, Stefan T., a professional electrical engineer, allegedly left his apartment around midnight on September 5 and was later reported missing by his colleagues in the apartment.
The German press compares this case with that of Armin Meiwes, a German cannibal imprisoned for life in 2006. Meiwes met his victim on the Internet, in a chat room for those interested in cannibalism. The man filmed the moment he killed his victim, a 43-year-old man.
