Manufacturers of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to fight the coronavirus pandemic have applied for certification of the drug to the World Health Organization (WHO), the body’s representative to the United Nations (UN) in Russia, Melita Vujnovic, announced Thursday.

During an interview with a Moscow radio station, Vujnovic commented that so far the WHO has not issued certification to any of the candidate vaccines being developed around the world to eradicate Covid-19.
“WHO has not yet announced any vaccines, because vaccines are in an evaluation system. This system, called the Emergency Use List, is basically the type of conditional certification that is done in the event of a pandemic, ”the WHO representative said.
The Sputnik V vaccine, registered on August 11 by the Russian government, shows 92% efficacy during the third phase of clinical trials. About 40,000 people volunteered at this stage of scientific research.
According to the Russian Fund for Direct Investment (RDIF), worldwide distribution of the massive production of around 500 million doses of Sputnik V per year will begin in early December.
According to the Johns Hopkins University of the United States, there are 56,358,603 coronavirus infections worldwide and 1,351,381 deaths have accumulated since the start of the pandemic.
