New York City: Schools have to close again due to increased crown numbers

Faced with the growing number of crowns, the east coast metropolis of the United States, New York, is closing its schools again. The city has passed the three percent mark of positive corona tests and will therefore temporarily close its educational facilities from Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter.

New York had become the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States in the spring and had to close all schools in mid-March. Over the summer, the infection rate had stabilized again, but the reopening was repeatedly postponed. The first schools could not reopen until the end of September. Recently, however, the situation had escalated again.

Just a week ago, the governor of the state of New York of the same name, Andrew Cuomo, announced new measures:

  • Restaurants, bars and gyms must therefore close at 22:00.

  • Meetings in private homes are limited to a maximum of ten people.

Nationally, the number of coronary patients admitted with Covid-19 rose to over 75,000 on Tuesday, setting a new record. The Midwest has become the new epicenter of the crisis in the United States, most recently recording nearly half a million cases in one week.
