They have been together all their lives. And when the virus came, they went together. Within a single day. These are the touching stories of two Milanese married couples who fell victim to Corona this November.
Vincenzo M. * († 83) and Olga († 82) were attentive. “They hardly left the house because they were afraid of being infected”, her niece Katia tells the Eco di Bergamo. Grandfather only went to the grocery store or to the pharmacy.
Yet it happens: the couple from Sesto San Giovanni (I) contract the coronavirus. First the man gets sick, then the woman. You have a high fever. However, the doctor only prescribed antibiotics for them, the niece said. The elderly torment themselves for ten days. Then on 11 November they were admitted to a hospital in Monza. Each in a different room. For the first time in their married life, Vincenzo and Olga are separated.
Olga dies and Vincenzo follows her an hour later
“Leave me his jacket”, pleaded Olga to the assistants, “so I can feel his presence.” She fights for four days, then Olga dies. Vincenzo also follows her an hour later. It is Sunday afternoon, November 15th. It is the end of a great love that began 63 years ago. “My grandparents celebrated their wedding anniversary on September 26,” says granddaughter Katia. They were in love like the first day.
“You don’t go alone”
Not even Ugo C. and his wife Graziella, both 89, can separate the virus. The two former teachers have been married for 65 years. You have four children, ten grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a full life. It will be destroyed in early November. The couple becomes infected.
When Graziella is picked up by the ambulance, Ugo bursts into tears. He shakes her hand and promises: “You won’t go alone.” One day after his wife was admitted to the Niguarda hospital in Milan, Ugo C. also collapsed. He comes to another crown hospital, several miles from his wife.
On November 10, there were two more deaths in Italy’s statistics. They are Ugo and Graziella. He died the same day, just a few hours straight.
