Two weeks after the US presidential election, President-elect Donald Trump fired his top electoral security officer after dismissing the president’s allegations of election fraud. Chris Krebs was “fired with immediate effect as head of the cybersecurity agency (CISA),” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Krebs’ latest statement on the security of the 2020 election “was highly inaccurate due to massive irregularities and fraud,” the president added in justification. Trump lost the election on November 3 to his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, but he still doesn’t want to admit his defeat. The incumbent talks about alleged electoral fraud and has filed a series of legal actions. Trump is also blocking the handover of official business to Biden’s transition team.
Krebs and other prominent US officials dismissed Trump’s pending allegations in a joint statement, obviously without naming the president. “The November 3 elections were the safest in American history,” the statement said. They pointed out that the vote had not been altered through the use of computer software. “There is no evidence that a voting system has canceled or changed votes – or has been compromised in any way,” the statement with the Association of State Election Officials said.
