Eleven illegally possessed weapons and 300 cartridges were discovered by the Romanian police in early November as part of a European action to prevent and combat arms trafficking. The action was attended by 24 European countries (Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland , Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom), which have benefited from the support of European law enforcement institutions and agencies (European Commission, EFE-Group of European Firearms Experts, Eurojust and Europol).
With the support of Europol, the authorities involved obtained data on arms trading operations carried out in previous years, in order to be able to carry out specific investigations and verification activities at the level of each State involved in the operation.
Thus, between 2 and 11 November, joint actions were carried out, during which police officers from Romania, Portugal, Albania and Greece carried out 81 house searches and individual checks, which led to 11 arrests, as well as all unavailability of goods. illegally detained.
Therefore, in these countries, a total of 191 weapons, over 3,700 cartridges, drugs (cannabis and cocaine), unmarked cigarettes, a car, pyrotechnics and false identity documents were seized. Europol supported the operation by exchanging data and information, as well as establishing a real-time communication flow between the participants.
