ADDIS ABABA, November 14 (Xinhua) – The number of confirmed cases on the African continent has reached 1,948,833, Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said Saturday.
The Continental Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic was 46,836 as of Saturday afternoon.
A total of 1,646,823 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered so far across the continent, according to the Continental Agency for Disease Control and Prevention.
The African countries most affected by COVID-19 in terms of the number of positive cases include South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Ethiopia, the data from the Africa CDC show.
The Southern African region is the region most affected by COVID-19 both in terms of the number of confirmed positive cases and in terms of the number of deaths, it was noted.
The North African region is the second most affected African region by COVID-19, according to the Africa CDC.
South Africa currently has the highest number of COVID-19 cases, reaching 746,945. The country also has the highest number of COVID-19 related deaths, 20,153.
Morocco comes next with 282,336 confirmed cases and 4,631 deaths, followed by Egypt with 110,319 confirmed cases and 6,429 deaths, Africa CDC said. Enditem
