The prestigious British company QS Quacquarelli Symonds has published the Latin America University Rankings 2021, which selects the 410 best universities in Latin America. Among the top ten universities in the ranking are the Universidad de los Andes and the Universidad Nacional.

To evaluate educational institutions, the company uses eight indicators, which allow them to define the performance of each institution: academic reputation, employability of graduates, web presence, professor per student ratio, staff with PhDs, international research network, publications scientific and research produced and citations per article.

In the top ten of the best universities in the region, the Universidad de los Andes is in sixth place and the National University, in tenth. The list is led by the Catholic University of Chile, followed by the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and, in third place, by Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico.

“This year’s edition of our independent audit of Latin American universities indicates that as our exercise matures and our dataset develops, we now see a stable hierarchy being established: there are no new members in the top twenty this year. Within these top twenty, stability is the table’s main feature, with PUC Chile being the only institution in this range that has seen a significant increase, ”said Ben Sowter, research director at QA.

Sowter added that: “Although Brazil remains the regional powerhouse of higher education, from the point of view of research and representation, its local dominance is far less pronounced at the individual indicator level than might be expected. Only one of its universities is in the top 30 in the region in terms of employability of graduates, and its impact on research does not match the productivity of raw research. Chile and Colombia get higher scores ”.

They appear in the general classification 60 Colombian universities, among the 410 best Latin American universities, which leaves Colombia as the third country with the highest number of universities on the list, below Brazil (94) and Mexico (66) and above Argentina (42), Chile (40) and Peru (20).

S.According to the QS ranking, the 10 best universities in Colombia are:

The Universidad de los Andes (6th place in the general ranking), followed by the National University (10), the University of Antioquia (13), then the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (18), followed by the Universidad del Rosario (40 ), the Universidad de La Sabana (48), the Universidad del Valle (50), Eafit (57), the Universidad del Norte (58) and the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (64).

Compared to last year’s data, the Universidad de la Sabana improved its performance to 62nd place, and this year it climbed to 48. Something similar happened with the Universidad Del Valle, which went up eight locations and with the Universidad del Valle. Rosario who climbed seven positions over the previous year.

Meanwhile, John Leonardo Vargas, coordinator of Competitive Intelligence of the Planning and Institutional Effectiveness Directorate of the Universidad del Rosario reacted moments after the publication of the ranking: “This is a sign that the labor and academic market recognizes a seal of quality and trust in the Rosary ”.
