Letby’s friends and family said the nurse in the “weird but kindhearted” neonatal unit was innocent.
A police spokesperson said:
“The Crown Procuratorate Service authorized the Cheshire police to detain a doctor on homicide charges in connection with the ongoing investigation into a string of infant deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Lucy Letby of Arran Street, Hereford, is accused of eight murders and 10 attempted murders “.
Police said on Tuesday that the parents of all children involved were fully informed of the developments and the families were supported by officers.
