The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Tuesday said the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 100,327, after 345 new cases were reported.
According to the ministry, new cases have been discovered on 4,360 COVID-19 medical tests conducted in the East African country over the past 24 hours.
Ethiopia had conducted 1,534,470 COVID-19 medical tests so far, it was noted.
The ministry also revealed that the number of COVID-19-related deaths in the country reached 1,537 as of Monday, after seven new COVID-19-related deaths were reported during the past 24 hours.
The ministry said around 61,516 patients who tested positive for the COVID-19 test have recovered so far, including 806 in the past 24 hours.
Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa is currently the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 50% of all COVID-19 cases confirmed, according to the ministry.
About 61% of all COVID-19 cases in the East African country are male.
According to the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia, the death rate from COVID-19 is 1.52%, while 51.9% of all deaths from COVID-19 occurred in the age group over 60. .
Meanwhile, 57% of all COVID-19 cases are in the 15-34 age group.
The ministry also said 63.1% of all COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic.
Ethiopia confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 13.
Ethiopia, the second most populous nation in Africa with around 107 million people, has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the East African region.
The East African country is the fourth most affected country by COVID-19 on the African continent, surpassed only by South Africa, Morocco and Egypt.
