Former US President George W. Bush congratulated Democrat Joe Biden for winning the US presidential election. He had spoken to “President-elect” Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, the last remaining Republican former president said Sunday. “Even though we have political differences, I know Joe Biden is a good man.” Bush also congratulated defeated incumbent President Donald Trump and his supporters on their campaign. “It has won the votes of over 70 million Americans – an outstanding political achievement.”

Bush stressed that Trump has the right to request a recount and to take legal action. The former president also wrote: “The American people can trust that this election was fundamentally right, that its integrity will be preserved and that its outcome will be clear.” Trump sees himself mocked by his victory in Tuesday’s election. However, he did not present any evidence for these allegations.

Bush said in an interview with him, Biden pointed out that he was a Democratic candidate but that he would rule for all Americans. “I offered him the same thing I offered President Trump and Obama: my prayers for his success and my promise to help him in any way possible.”

George W. Bush was President of the United States from 2001 to 2009. He was followed by Democrat Barack Obama in the White House. (SDA)
