The current global insecurity and concern amidst the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic are likely to lead to the outbreak of another world war, British military chief Nick Carter has warned, Agerpres reports.
In an interview to coincide with Remembrance Sunday – the annual commemorations held in the UK in memory of those killed or injured in the two world wars and subsequent conflicts – Nick Carter stressed that escalating regional tensions and misjudgments could eventually lead to extended conflict.
“I think we live in an age where the world is a very insecure and restless place and, of course, the dynamics of global competition are both a feature of our lives, and I think the real risk we run with quite a large number of conflicts The ongoing regional crisis is facing an escalation of errors, “Nick Carter told Sky News.
Asked if there was a real threat of another world war, Carter said: “I say there is a risk and we must be aware of these risks.”
Carter, who became chief of the British army in 2018, said it was important to remember those who died in previous wars as a warning to those who might repeat the mistakes of the past.
“If we forget the horrors of war, I think the biggest risk is that people think going to war is reasonable,” he warned.
“We have to keep in mind that history may not repeat itself, but it does have a rhythm, and if we look back on the last century (and the previous period) of both world wars, I think there can be no doubt that there has been an escalation. which led to errors of judgment which ultimately led to wars of proportions that we hope we will never see again, “said the head of the British military.
