“They justified the murder with the fact that it was forbidden to offend the prophet,” said a spokeswoman for the interior ministry.

French police questioned four children under 10 who expressed support for the beheading of a teacher and said they would kill their teacher if he made fun of the Islamic prophet, the government reported Saturday 7-N.

The prime minister warned that Islamic extremists are recruiting in France with “ignorance and hatred”.

Police arrested the children and their parents for several hours Thursday in the Alpine town of Albertville, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Camille Chaize said.

On Monday, as French schools observed a minute’s silence in honor of the murdered teacher Samuel Paty, the children expressed their support for the murder, which took place near Paris last month.

“They justified the teacher’s murder on the grounds that it was forbidden to offend the prophet and said they would kill their teacher if he made fun of the prophet,” Chaize said.

Paty was killed on October 16 in front of her school in the Paris region by an 18-year-old refugee of Chechen origin. He showed his students the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad during a debate on freedom of expression.

The Albertville children were released after being interrogated and judicial authorities ordered them to receive special education, the spokeswoman said. The police broke into their homes.

Paty’s killer was killed by the police.
