Nearly 1,000 patients with COVID-19 have been transferred from hospital to hospital in Belgium since the beginning of October in an attempt to share the burden, the Belgian agency, taken over by dpa, said on Saturday.

With an average of nearly 12,000 new cases of infection between Wednesday 28 October and Tuesday 3 November, with a population of around 11.5 million, Belgium has one of the highest infection rates in Europe.
To prevent hospitals from having to refuse patients, the government imposed a partial quarantine earlier this month, ordering the closure of stores of non-essential products and limiting close contact with one person in a family.

As of October 1, 945 patients with COVID-19 have been transferred to other hospitals to deliver beds in units that have reached their maximum reception capacity.
The vast majority of these patients were relocated within the country, but 24 patients were sent to neighboring Germany, the Belgian news agency reported.
