S.The United States and the rest of the world have been waiting for hours for the results of eight American states that are still missing the vote count. The result is still close. In four states, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden leads, in four the incumbent Donald Trump.
The most competitive is Pennsylvania. Trump is currently way ahead there. But there is a scenario where Biden could become president of the United States without a victory in Pennsylvania. If he takes the lead in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nebraska past the finish line, Biden would have 270 electoral votes – the majority.
This is the current state in these states:
Wisconsin (10 voters): The Swing State lives up to its name and is expected to go from Republican to Democrat. Almost 24 hours after polling stations closed, CNN dared to predict: Biden will win. 99 percent of the votes are counted. Most recently, Biden surpassed Donald Trump (48.8%) with 49.4% of the vote – the lead of 20,510 votes is still small. The reason for the turnaround was the new numbers from the Democratic bastion of Milwaukee. Here, the results of the region’s 170,000 postal votes could only be announced when they had all been counted: the vast majority of them went to Biden.
Michigan (16 voters): Currently 94 percent of the votes are counted here. Biden is expanding his lead at the finish line and with 49.5% he is ahead of Trump (48.8%). Most recently, Biden increased his lead from around 9,900 to 37,350 votes. Fox, which is actually considered Trump’s house broadcaster, sees Biden at the forefront.
Arizona (11 voters) could be the decisive state that Trump is losing. Fox News was the first broadcaster to declare Biden’s election victory, and other US media have followed suit. Now 86% of the votes are counted, Biden leads with 51.0% of the vote, Trump is at 47.6%.
CNN reported on its live broadcast that Trump would be very upset by the Fox News announcement. Fox News explained its decision by saying that most of the pending votes would come from absent votes and from a constituency where Biden is favored. Therefore, it is virtually impossible for Trump to catch up. In his White House speech, the US president was clearly angry about the loss, but concluded with the words, “We don’t need Arizona.”
In Nevada (6 voters), where Trump (48.7%) was initially in the lead, has now joined Biden (49.3%) – the difference is only 7647 votes. 86% of the votes are counted. However, the state accepts the mail-order votes that were given on election day: a final result could then take another week. This was announced by the state electoral office Twitterdo not announce further results until Thursday at 9:00 local time (18:00 CET). Nevada went to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Biden must win Nevada again alongside Arizona to avoid being dependent on Pennsylvania.
Where the signs are good for Trump
Pennsylvania (20 voters): After counting 81% of the vote, Trump is still clearly ahead with 53.1% of the vote (Biden 45.6). Pennsylvania may be one of the last states whose results will be known: official results weren’t expected until Thursday night. In particular, the counting of postal votes has also been delayed, of which a higher percentage is likely to have voted democratically. Postal votes can be counted up to three days after election day if they are stamped on November 3. In 2016, Trump won and won the state’s many voters with a lead of just 0.7 percentage points.
The choice in Georgia (16 voters), where 93% of the vote has already been counted, but Trump is currently only a subtle step ahead of Biden (48.5%) with 50.2%. Not much is changing here at the moment, the borough of Fulton County, which also includes the city of Atlanta, has announced a counting break until 2pm CET. However, there are still two districts where many Biden supporters live.
Also North Carolina (15 voters) has not yet been decided, contrary to what Trump claims. Although 95% of the vote has already been counted here, Trump is currently only slightly ahead of Biden (48.6) with 50.1%. When Trump talks about a “big win” in the state in his speech to White House supporters, applause is just as scant. In 2016, Georgia and North Carolina went to Trump.
Additionally, the entries in Alaska (3 voters) still counted. They are considered safe for Trump.
Election night initially looked like 2016: polls initially gave Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden hope of a clear victory. Then, however, Donald Trump’s map of victories in the States became increasingly red. But now it looks like Biden could win at the finish line.
Texas, Florida, Ohio – the major US states securing many electoral votes for a candidate and which Democrats had hoped for in advance have returned to Republican Trump. As a result, the president of the United States has already been elected the winner. He justified it with intermediate results in the contested states, where the counts were still ongoing.
