According to preliminary results, the former vice president had 238 votes in the constituency, while the president, who asks for re-election, had 213. To win the presidency, 270 electoral votes are needed.
After several hours of silence on the part of the two main protagonists of the election day, Biden went out to give a speech to his followers who asked for patience until the end of the counting of the votes.

However, he has not stopped showing his optimism and declaring that he is confident that he is “on track to win the election”.
“We knew it would take some time for the votes by mail, but we have to be patient until the end of the count (…) But we feel good about where we are,” said the Democratic candidate in his speech delivered by the headquarters of the his campaign in Wilmington, Delaware.
“It is not for me or for Donald Trump to declare the winner of this election. It is the place of the voters,” said the former US vice president.
Biden estimated the final election results could be known until Wednesday morning or even later, but reiterated his optimism.
A few minutes later, the response from the president of the United States arrived, who first warned via a message on Twitter that he had achieved “A great victory!”
“We are up, but they are trying to steal the election. We will never let them,” he said in another tweet.
Later, in a statement released early Wednesday in a White House room, Trump said he had won the election held on Tuesday and that his advantage is “by far”.
“We have won, we have won a lot,” said Trump, adding that “we are preparing for a big party, we are preparing to celebrate the results that are phenomenal”.
The president, however, and when there are millions of votes to count, warns that there are signs of fraud and announces that he could go to the Court of Justice to ask for a recount of the votes.
Biden’s election campaign responded to Trump two hours later, calling his claims to slow the vote count “outrageous”.
“The president’s statement tonight about trying to stop the counting of votes cast correctly is outrageous, unprecedented and wrong,” he reiterated.
