Tony Chung, 19, was taken by men while standing in a bar across from the US consulate, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a reporter who witnessed the events.

Various media outlets cited sources close to the investigation that Chung was arrested by the police unit tasked with enforcing the national security law in Hong Kong.
A pro-independence group, “Student Localism”, of which Chung was a member before the National Security Act went into effect in June, reported on Facebook today that the young man had “disappeared,” noting that two other former members were arrested this Tuesday by the police.
Police later confirmed the three arrests, saying they were linked to an ongoing investigation into the group for “inciting secession”, one of the new crimes against national security. Chung thus becomes the first political figure to be prosecuted under this new law. He is also accused of money laundering and conspiracy to publish seditious, that is, disobedient content.
Another group, hitherto unknown, called “Friends of Hong Kong”, warned the press of this arrest in a statement, saying that its members tried to obtain an asylum application for Chung through the American consulate.
France Press was unable to verify whether the group helped the young man to apply for asylum.
According to the statement, members of the group saw four men enter the cafeteria on Tuesday morning and arrest Chung.
The activist did not answer the calls he had on his cell phone.
