Trump gives Nigel Farage the stage in an election speech
7.15: US President Donald Trump took his “friend” Nigel Farage, head of the British Brexit Party, to an election rally in Arizona. Farage made a short but passionate appeal for Trump to Goodyear on Wednesday: “This is the toughest and most courageous person I’ve ever met in my life,” he said.
Farage attacked Trump’s media and political opponents who had made his life difficult in recent years. The US president is the only head of government in the free world who has the courage to fight for his country and stand up to globalization and China, Farage said.
Trump and Farage have had a political friendship for several years. The Briton was already at an election final winner event in 2016.
Hillary Clinton is a member of the New York State Electoral College
07.12: Hillary Clinton, the loser in the 2016 US presidential election, claims to be a member of the constituency that will elect this year’s winner. She is running for election woman for the state of New York, Clinton told radio station SiriusXM Wednesday. “I’m an electoral woman in New York.” In the USA, the president is not elected directly by the citizens, but by the members of the so-called Electoral College.
New York state supplies 29 of the total 538 voters. The 538 voters are in turn elected by the citizens at the state level. A US presidential candidate needs at least 270 votes to enter the White House.
In the “Signal Boost” program, Clinton was confident she could vote for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his runner-up Kamala Harris. “I’m sure I’ll be voting for Joe and Kamala in New York, so that’s pretty exciting,” said the former US secretary of state and presidential candidate.
Barrett remains out of the Pennsylvania postal vote decision
7.10am: New judge Amy Coney Barrett remained out of the US Supreme Court decision to vote by post in the state of Pennsylvania. A court spokeswoman told the New York Times Wednesday that you didn’t have enough time to familiarize yourself with the documents. Barrett had only been sworn in on Tuesday. Democrats, who have not resisted their appeal, generally ask not to take part in decisions about the upcoming presidential elections.
President Donald Trump had in particular stressed that he wanted to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court, especially in view of possible proceedings on the counting of votes before the election date of November 3. The conservative majority in the Supreme Court has grown with Barrett to six of the nine seats.
Wednesday’s ruling concerns a request from Republicans in Pennsylvania that postal ballots received after November 3 should no longer be counted. The Supreme Court rejected the party’s motion for an expedited decision by a majority of five or three votes. One reason for this has not been published. At the same time, however, three Conservative judges expressly reserved the right to rule on the case at a later date.
In Pennsylvania, ballots arriving up to three days after November 3 have yet to be counted. Ahead of the crown pandemic, far more Americans are voting by letter than usual. At the same time, it is unclear how long the letters might take after the US Post austerity measures. Trump recently asked again that only votes received by November 3 be counted.
