(MENAFN – Daily News Egypt) Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for talks with Russian officials, Egypt’s foreign ministry announced.
Shoukry will discuss bilateral relations and coordination between the two countries on regional issues, including situations in Libya, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon.
The Egyptian foreign minister will meet with Russian officials, including the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the Secretary General of the Russian National Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, and the Russian President’s National Security Advisor.
The meetings will take place after the announcement that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has gone into voluntary solitary confinement after coming into contact with new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19). Shoukry expressed best wishes for Lavrov’s speedy recovery.
The two countries are seeking to coordinate on the most important regional issues of mutual interest, in particular the peace efforts in the Middle East and the situations in Libya, Syria and Yemen.
They will also discuss the situation in Lebanon, which called on Egypt to coordinate with the influential parts of the Middle East regarding regional stability.
During Shoukry’s visit to Russia, he will also meet Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Russian parliament’s international affairs committee, the Duma. He will also be received by a number of officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Deputy Foreign Minister and the Russian President’s envoy to Middle East Ambassador Mikhail Bogdanov.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, the Egyptian minister attended a virtual meeting on the Ethiopian dam. The meeting was led by the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Naledi Pandor, with the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Irrigation in both Sudan and Ethiopia.
