Skin change
Both doctors had to go into a coma induced by the complications caused by the covid. When they woke up they found that their skin tone had darkened.
In an interview with a reporter from “China Central Television” (CCTV), Yi said that the fear he felt when he saw his dark skin forced him to receive psychological treatment.
According to Chinese state media, this change in her skin was due to a “hormonal imbalance from the damage the coronavirus has caused to their liver“.
However, Dr. Li Shusheng, who treated his colleagues, told the TV network that Yi and Hu’s skin darkened due to a drug given to them during the early stages of treatment.

Chloroquine, an antimalarial drug that was later recommended for the treatment of COVID-19, was the drug given to men.
Its use may have caused liver damage in patients, hence the change in the skin, as told by Shusheng.
“CCTV” also reported that Yi’s condition improved following his connection to a life support machine, called Ecmo, for 39 days.
Ecmo’s function is to pump oxygen into the blood.
On April 6, it was reported that Yi was recovering normally and that his injuries had largely healed.
But as he recovered, his partner, Hu, died in June after being ill for more than four months.
