This “tactic” made it appear that he had paid his own shipping costs on returns, when in fact he had not, the sheriff’s office explained.
Tibma completed 42,000 individual returns across 31 different accounts. Those returns resulted in refunds of over $ 100,000 to her benefit, as all accounts were linked to her name and mailing address in the coastal city of Tampa.
“This woman took advantage of a loophole she uncovered in the restitution process,” Sheriff Chad Chronister admitted in the statement.
The county police chief also stressed that “through investigative means, our economic crime investigators were able to quickly locate and arrest the suspect.”
Tibma was arrested “without incident”, he added.
