The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, reported on Monday that the government of Venezuela met this Monday with the representative of the Pan American Health Organization (OPS) in Venezuela Pier Paolo Balladelli, in order to send the World Organization of Health (WHO discovery of the DR10 molecule to fight coronavirus.
“With the minister Carlos Alvarado and the chancellor, Jorge Arreaza, we have formalized the results of this investigation to begin the registration of the molecule DR10 as a treatment for coronavirus,” he said at a news conference.
He assured that during the meeting, “We have shared other lines of research looking for results on different treatments for the virus,” he added.
He explained that in the coming days the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, will give important announcements on this discovery and on other lines of investigation.
He explained that they presented the study conclusions and other ways of drugs and therapies to achieve efficacy on the virus.
On Sunday, the President of the Republic announced to the country that a group of Creole researchers from Puerto Cabello has identified and isolated a molecule, belonging to a medicinal plant, that inhibits SARS-CoV-2 by 100%, according to preclinical studies.
He noted that the DR-10 molecule is a highly effective antiviral component against the novel coronavirus. Scientists developed the drug based on the Dr10 molecule, an ursolic acid triterpene, which performs effectively in the viral replication of SARS-COV-2 in in vitro culture.
For the studies, covid-19 was exposed to different concentrations, then the same process was done with healthy cells, with which the structure of the molecular sequence was identified.
For six months, experts from the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC) conducted chemical, molecular and statistical studies of the active ingredient that inhibits – by 100% – the new coronavirus.
The DR10 molecule has been used to fight hepatitis C, human papillomavirus, Ebola and other diseases and has been tested to treat COVID-19 infection.
Ursolic acid is a naturally derived pentacyclic triterpenic acid that exerts extensive effects on various diseases and exhibits the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.
The beneficial effects of UA include: anti-inflammatory, antiviral and cytotoxic, antioxidant, antiapoptotic, hepatoprotective, analgesic, antimicrobial, gastroprotective, antitumor activity, among others.
