It sounds bold ahead of Corona, but it’s doable: a winter vacation in a tropical distance, even with a German tour operator. What is currently possible?
The worldwide travel warning has long since been lifted. However, due to the ongoing corona pandemic and restrictions associated with international travel, people are still warned or strongly advised against traveling to many countries. But there are long-term destinations where holidays are again possible. Travelers should note that both the pandemic and their respective entry requirements may change at short notice. A selection:
Indian Ocean: beach holidays and diving
Holidays on paradisiacal islands, isolated from the hustle and bustle of the world – this is certainly possible in the Indian Ocean. Tui announced that, despite the travel warning, he will fly vacationers again from Frankfurt to the Maldives from 27 October, in collaboration with Lufthansa. Currently 80% of Tui’s hotel offer can be booked in the island state.
As the Foreign Office (AA) writes, travelers must be able to present a negative crown test in English upon entry. The smear must be collected no later than 72 hours before departure. An electronic entry declaration is mandatory.
A similar regulation also applies to the Seychelles, which can also be visited. There are no travel advisories for this country either, the AA simply advises against tourist travel. The French overseas territory of La Réunion can still be visited – however, the German government has issued a travel notice here. And tourists can enter Mauritius again who stay in the country for at least 14 days.
Africa: Safari in the lonely savannah
Several African countries can currently be visited and are also offered by special tour operators. Chameleon Travel, for example, currently takes small groups to Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Diamir Erlebnisreisen is already taking travelers to Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda and Rwanda. Zambia will also take place and take place, Diamir said.
The countries mentioned are classic safari destinations, travelers move mainly in nature and away from the crowds. Beach holidays are very popular on the island of Zanzibar, which is part of Tanzania.
There are currently no travel alerts for Namibia, Uganda and Rwanda, but there are for Tanzania and Kenya. The popular South African tourist destination currently does not allow tourist entry from Germany, and there is also a travel warning.
Central America and the Caribbean: a little bit of Cuba
Tour operators FTI and Alltours have already announced that they will again offer trips to the island of Cuba in the winter. Condor plans to fly to Varadero from Frankfurt and Düsseldorf starting October 31. For the moment Varadero is the only place in Cuba that, according to the Foreign Office, can be visited again. Travelers are severely limited in their freedom of movement and visits to the main island are not possible.
Other Caribbean countries also allow foreign travelers to re-enter the country under certain conditions, such as Barbados or the Dominican Republic. But nothing works without a negative corona test. And air traffic is only slowly picking up.
In Central America, for example, Costa Rica has reopened to international tourists. Chameleon Reisen also names the country as one of the long-term destinations that are currently being offered again. Evidence of a negative corona test is also required here.
What travelers need to know
Travel options and entry requirements can change at any time as the pandemic develops. Vacationers who are being dragged into the distance should therefore inquire carefully about the travel destination and the documents required for entry, such as the crown test certificate. The travel and safety information provided by the AA can help you in your search. A careful search for suitable flights is also necessary.
Equally important: Just because a trip is feasible again doesn’t mean it’s sensible or risk-free. Vacationers should carefully examine the imponderables and ask themselves if their wanderlust is really that great. For example, many international travel health insurers don’t pay if there is a travel warning for a country. And there may be extensive regulatory restrictions on the site.
In principle, it is recommended to book through a German tour operator. He is obliged to bring his guests back to Germany in the crisis country on his own.
Many travel countries are still tight
Whether it’s the United States and Canada, Thailand and Indonesia, or Australia and New Zealand – many popular long-distance travel destinations are still closed to foreign tourists indefinitely.
