NEWSROOM (ADV) – Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi received his Southern Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir on Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, the presidency said in a statement.

"The two leaders will discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields and a number of regional issues of common interest," said Bassam Radi, spokesman for the presidency, adding that the meeting witnessed Cairo's desire to promote peace in South Sudan.

President Kiir arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for a two-day visit.

The two leaders will also address a number of issues concerning the countries of the Nile basin, including negotiations on the Ethiopian Dam of the Great Renaissance, a project supported by South Sudan but that Egypt fears to damage the waters of the Nile, has reported the Egyptian news Al-Ahram website.
