Xiaomi is conquering Western Europe. You have already thrown Huawei from the podium!

We have known for some time that Xiaomi had arrived to stay in Europe, betting more and more on the expansion of its physical presence in the main markets. However, no one expected such strong growth, especially at a time when the smartphone market is very “shaky” due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, once again it is confirmed that the misfortune of some is the luck of others. With all the problems that Huawei continues to face due to US bans, the inevitable has started to happen. During the 3rd quarter of 2020, Huawei showed a 32% decline in Western Europe, and Xiaomi made the most of it reaching a growth of 107%.

That is, if on the one hand the fall of Huawei was undoubtedly an important help, the growth of Xiaomi in Europe continues to present incredible values, doubling its market share in just 12 months.

Xiaomi will not be the only threat to Huawei in European markets

The data recently published by Canalys reveal another surprise. Recently, we learned that OPPO has also decided to start betting on its expansion in Europe, also with Portugal as one of the prominent countries. Proof of this investment and the new strategy is its leap forward in smartphone sales in Western Europe.

In the span of 12 months it went from “non-existent brand” to 5th position, registering a growth of 942% (almost 10 times). It is true that they are still a long way from Huawei, with an 8% difference between their market shares. Although OPPO is not expected to maintain growth with these figures over the next 12 months, Huawei’s fall in Europe is believed to be just beginning.

So even if OPPO’s growth in Europe slows slightly, it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to imagine that the brand could eventually overtake Huawei as early as 2021.
