With the help of a subsidiary of Overstock.com, Wyoming is again "a flamboyant blockchain path".
The Teton County administrators in Wyoming have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the subsidiary Doctors Land Governance (MLG) of Overstock.com to develop a blockchain platform to "track, record and make available to the public certain information related to real estate for management purposes ", according to a December 20 press release from Overstock.
Overstock states that all Teton County related land management documents dating back to 1996 as "mortgages and release of privileges" will be placed on the blockchain platform, excluding any "information on the title" that is not already publicly available on the existing land system of registration. Once started, the blockchain platform also intends to "acquire and record automatically" all subsequent transactions on land management and update the blockchain platform accordingly.
MLG is part of the portfolio of the venture capital company of Overstock.com, Medici Ventures. Doctors Ventures was founded in 2014 with the stated goal of accelerating the mass adoption of blockchain technology. Supervises the Overstock tZERO trading platform and has invested in a number of blockchain-related companies, including the Israeli base VinX, a token-based blockchain system to fight fraud in the wine industry, and Voatz, the company responsible for launching a blockchain-rated voting app for western virginians living in the world. abroad last November.
The MLG is younger and even narrower in its objectives, which will be launched in 2018 with the explicit mission of "using blockchain and other technologies to provide user-friendly and low-cost territory management systems". In November he signed a memorandum of understanding with the Authority for the management of the territory and the use of Rwanda and the Authority for the information society of Rwanda to supply to Rwanda a "system of land governance without paper, secure, corruption-proof and blockchain".
According to the press release, Caitlin Long, co-founder of the Wyoming Blockchain Coalition, expressed her excitement about the new project and said: "This is yet another example of Wyoming blazing blockchain trails".
The Cowboy state has been bullish on blockchain. In March, the Wyoming legislature approved five draft laws on blockchain technology and virtual currency. And the legislators have carried out a bill that would create "specialized deposit banks" for blockchain companies.
