Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, the Sunshine Coast, and East Vancouver Island.
Strong winds of 70km / h with gusts of up to 90km / h are expected on Tuesday, as a cold front moves into the region.
Areas of the Vancouver metro near the water, including Tsawwassen and Boundary Bay, are expected to experience the brunt of winds, which are expected to decrease in the afternoon.
BC Ferries has canceled a number of departures, including 10:15 departing from Tsawwassen and 12:45 departing from Duke Point.
10:40 am from Horseshoe Bay and 1:00 pm back from Nanaimo Departure Bay were also canceled due to strong winds.
Power outages are also a potential concern if trees and branches fall on lines.
Environment Canada warns that loose objects can be thrown by the wind and cause injury or damage.
