When will the new Yamaha Turbo arrive?

Although the displacement of the prototype engine matches that 847 cc of the first generation MT-09 (2014-2020), it is not exactly the same as it has more travel (73mm) and less diameter (67.5mm) to gain torque at low rpm. During the tests the motorcycle reached a maximum of 180 hp at 8,500 rpm for a torque of 176 Nm (the 90% available from 3,000 rpm up to 7,000 rpm). It is also surprising that these figures were reached with a 30% less of CO2 emissions compared to an equivalent atmospheric engine, something far below the levels of the Euro 5 that will come into effect on January 1st.

In addition to the turbo, this engine has direct injection fuel (injects gasoline directly into the combustion chambers instead of using the throttle bodies). Finally, adds Yamaha variable distribution in search of that engine that embraces the motto of “green performance”. With longer stroke and direct injection, these engines will be closer to those of cars, which have long used this technique (turbo and direct injection) to exceed their emission standards and reduce fuel consumption. That is, more push from below and less “stretched”.
