Hyperledger Fabric has attracted the attention of all major cloud providers, Brian Behlendorf, executive director of Hyperledger announced in his opening keynote at the Hyperledger Global Forum last week in Basel, Switzerland. What does this say about the maturity of Hyperledger projects? A lot!
Plans for 2019
For beginners, Brian has announced that much more professionalization will take place in 2019 in the form of certifications. Hyperledger worked with The Linux Foundation to create two professional blockchain certification programs: Certified Hyperledger Sawtooth Administrator available in December 2018 and Certified Hyperledger Fabric Administrator available in January 2019.
The Hyperledger Fabric Certified Administrator (CHFA) will be able to install, configure, use, manage, and troubleshoot nodes on a secure Hyperledger Fabric commercial network. The Certified Hyperledger Sawtooth Administrator (CHSA) will be able to effectively build a secure Sawtooth Hyperledger network for commercial deployment, including the ability to install, configure, manage, manage and troubleshoot nodes on that network.
As the demand for blockchain skills exceeds supply, we are pleased to see how these certifications can bridge the demand gap.
Also, in the blockchain world, every developer knows about Hyperledger but there is a whole world of developers out there. Therefore, Hyperledger's list of new year's resolutions contains more developer involvement beyond the blockchain world, as well as better metrics to ensure project success.

Takeaways
Alexis Gauba, co-founder of Mechanism Labs, explained that although the popularity of the blockchain has been steadily gaining strength, these systems are currently limited in their ability to support robust and large-scale applications due to scalability and security issues. The answer to this problem is simple: the level of consent. Although the proof of Bitcoin's work is the most common today, it has some drawbacks, including the fact that:
- it's a waste of energy (since it uses a lot of computational power)
- it slows down the consensus process
David Treat, Managing Director of Accenture believes that DLT is now ready for the next phase of the journey to production. In his keynote at the Hyperledger Global Forum, David emphasized the differences between technology and enterprise production readiness. A technology can be ready for the early evening only if it is functional, scalable and manageable, but the business needs are different; the same technology must be precious, transformed, symbiotic and governed to meet the needs.
But what is the winning DLT? According to some blockchain experts who presented at the conference, it is too early to say.
Public or private blockchains? It depends on your case of use.
tl; dr
- Users will not know that they are using blockchain and this is not really necessary. It's called masked adoption because it's there even if you do not know it.
- Diversity (of projects) is a strength.
- If you're not sure you need blockchain technology, you should wait.
- If you do not have a clear case for blockchain, you should wait.
- If you are a large organization that wants to experiment with the blockchain, you should wait.
- What should you use: public or private blockchain? It depends on your case of use.
