As British Colombians adjust to radical new restrictions announced Thursday by BC health officials, an escape plan has been presented thanks to two of Canada’s largest airlines.
WestJet and Air Canada have signed an agreement with the state of Hawaii that will allow guests traveling to the islands to bypass the mandatory 14-day quarantine in the US state.
The workaround is possible because airlines offer pre-flight COVID-19 tests for passengers.
If travelers receive a negative test within a 72-hour period prior to departure, Hawaii will allow passengers to disembark without the need to quarantine.

While the Canada-US border remains closed to non-essential travel, there is no such ban for air travelers, assuming they follow public health regulations in the state or province they land in.
Canadians, however, will still have to self-isolate for two weeks upon returning to Canada.
