The presentation of the cars was broadcast live on Facebook from the REM maintenance and control center, a building located right next to the future Rive Sud station at the southern end of the network.

“Today I am delighted to show you your REM,” said Macky Tall, CEO of CDPQ Infra. “In such a short time, we went from a vision to all of this,” he added, pointing to the train parked behind him.

Driverless cars, built by Alstom, are considered light metro cars and will circulate outdoors over much of the network. They are heated and air conditioned and will also provide wireless Internet service. Four of the cars arrived about a month ago and the next delivery is expected early next year. 212 cars will be delivered for the project. The network will operate for 20 hours a day and for the four hours that the trains are idle, half will be stored in the South Shore control center, while the other half will be stored in a maintenance facility currently under construction in St- Eustache.
