Walmart Canada explained how in-store shopping will work during the Black Friday sales period during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To start, Walmart noted that it is splitting its larger Black Friday promotion into several smaller sales.
Here is the order of those sales:
- Black Friday early offers – Thursday 19th November (in store and online)
- Games and Video Game Event – Wednesday, November 25 from 9 p.m. ET on Walmart.ca (starts in-store November 26 at 7 a.m. local time)
- Black Friday 2020 Main Event – Thursday, November 26 from 9 p.m. ET on Walmart.ca (starts in-store November 27 at 7 a.m. local time)
- Cyber Monday 2020 Event – More exclusive online offers for Cyber Monday starting Monday 30 November
While Walmart hasn’t disclosed specific promotions yet, the retailer says it will have more than 1,000 Black Friday deals in-store and online.
Additionally, the retailer outlined the steps it is taking to keep shopping safe for customers amid the pandemic. Beyond the usual steps, like applying wearable masks, offering hand sanitizer, and limiting the number of customers allowed in the story, Walmart claims it will:
- Assigning Walmart associates to monitor capacity within key departments during peak purchasing periods
- More sanitation stations in the departments and key areas of the store
- Contactless pickup and delivery for online orders of $ 35 or more
- The best items strategically placed in the store and more open space between features to support social distancing
- Mobile checkouts will be available so that customers can pay for their purchases anywhere in the store
- All tills are open during peak hours on weekends to promote physical distances
- In select stores, shoppers can skip the line using a new feature on the Walmart app to book a shopping time
- Customers are encouraged to check the Walmart app to see if this feature is available in their local store
