VW has been delivering the ID.3 since September. The compact car is part of the ID electric car family. and it should produce a large number of articles, especially in Europe. The Wolfsburg-based manufacturer has now updated the current status of its hopeful e-car.

The ID.3 has been available for order since last year. The announced start of summer could only be maintained for a short time, due to software problems that in the meantime threatened considerable delays. After the introduction six weeks ago, VW’s balance sheet is positive. “So far there have been around 38,000 orders and more than 14,000 vehicles have already been delivered,” a company spokesperson for the news agency said. dpa.

With the ID.3, VW still does not come close to the sales figures of the electric car industry leader Tesla. However, production of the compact electric car is still accelerating and the base model announced for “less than 30,000 euros” will not be offered until next year. Major software updates will need to be caught up in the coming months. In order to be able to deliver the ID.3 to the first customers on time, VW initially renounced some digital functions. These will soon be uploaded to the net with new software.

VW actually wanted to produce 100,000 ID.3s this year, but due to startup issues and the coronavirus, this goal is no longer achievable. Brand head Ralf Brandstätter stressed at the end of September: “Our electronic offensive and customer handover is now in full swing.” Initial feedback is “very good”. He noted that the effects of the pandemic had “left a clear mark”. The VW plant in Zwickau, where the ID.3 is built, has not been able to produce for a few weeks.

The ID.3 is the first Volkswagen model to be based on the new MEB electric car construction kit used throughout the group. The series replaces the e-Golf which was later converted to a complete Stromer, and will likely replace the entire Golf range in the long run. With the ID.3 and other electric cars of the main brand, as well as the various subsidiaries, Volkswagen wants to become the world’s leading provider of electric mobility. The ID.4, which will be launched again this year, will drive even more than the ID.3: the SUV will be the first “e-world car” to be launched in Europe, China and the United States almost simultaneously.
