Volkswagen’s Germans plan to sell eight ID-series electric vehicles in China by the end of 2023.
The first ID model that the German manufacturer will sell in the People’s Republic is the ID crossover. Two variants of the crossover were introduced this week, the ID.4 X and the sports version ID.4 Crozz. The production of the ID.4 X is managed by the automaker’s association with SAIC Motor, while the ID.4 Crozz is assembled by associating VW with the Chinese group FAW.
ID.4 X is 20mm longer and 11mm taller than Crozz, but has the same wheelbase as its sibling. There are some changes on the outside, notably different headlights, taillights and bumpers.
VW hasn’t announced the technical specifications for the Chinese duo, but has confirmed that the two factories that build the ID.4 models have an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles each.
VW Group China CEO Stephan Wollenstein confirmed that the automaker will introduce six more ID models in China, but did not specify what form they will take.
An obvious possibility for the German manufacturer is to start selling the ID.3 compact sedan in China as well. Another candidate could be the future ID.5, which shares its technical characteristics with ID.4, and who was recently spied on at the Nurburgring.
