Vitalik Buterin, the creator of ethereum, has just donated $ 300,000 in cryptocurrency to three blockchain startups – apparently making the decision in response to a Twitter thread.
The three projects receiving the 1,000 ETH grants are Prysmatic Labs, ChainSafe Systems and Sigma Prime.
All are projects that work to build the next iteration of the blockchain network, ethereum 2.0. Sigma Prime is building a client ethereum 2.0 called Lighthouse, Prysmatic Labs is working on the scalability of ethereum and ChainSafe is also building a client ethereum 2.0.
The move came in response to a thread on Twitter where leading members of the ethereum community discussed ways in which technology could be improved, with many citing inadequate funding as a reason for slow development.
Preston Van Loon, co-founder of Prysmatic Labs and an IT engineer at Google, tweeted this, even with the recent scholarships, "is not enough to bring the whole team full time with significant wage reductions and certainly it is not even for us to climb the team where it is needed".
At that, Buterin He answered:
"I just sent 1000 eth. Yolo [you only live once].
Comments followed Tweet by Ryan Sean Adams, founder of Crypto Investment Company Mythos Capital, who cited the comments of "hard love" from the investor VC Fred Wilson, and wrote that ethereum "misses the dates of the ships [and] lack of basic operational leadership ".
Ameen Solaimani, CEO of SpankChain, He answered in the thread, stating that: "Ethereum has been driving for too long (2 years)." He needs more attention and urgency on scalability to reclaim his narrative. "Move fast or die slowly."
A second grant was awarded to Sigma Prime, on the occasion of co-founder Paul Hauner tweeted that his project was "rejected for a couple of concessions recently, we can certainly turn 1k ETH into more developers!" Buterin responded with another 1,000 ETH.
The third donation went to ChainSafe, based in Canada, after the project conducted by Mikerah Quintyne-Collins tweeted: "I would literally abandon if we had $ 100k in ETH." Buterin accepted the commitment and donated to the project, stating: "I expect results!"
Buterin, who (now perhaps ironically) defines himself on Twitter as a "non-donor of aether" in response to the many scammer cryptographers on the social media platform, also provided three transaction link confirming the transactions, which come from his well-known ether address.
Prysmatic Labs and Sigma Prime have already received donations from the Ethereum Foundation. Prysmatic Labs has been granted $ 500,000 in October and $ 100,000 in March, and Sigma Prime got it $ 150,000 in October.
The current price of etherum, the native cryptocurrency of ethereum, is about $ 103 at the time of printing, as per CoinDesk's price index.
