LANGFORD (NEWS 1130) – A man who went to a couple of Vancouver Island businesses on Monday and scolded staff for COVID security protocols ended up in handcuffs and two fines.
West Shore RCMP says around 3:30 pm, officers confronted a man who refused to wear a mask at a Langford gas station, who then became belligerent with staff.
The 40-year-old man was arrested, charged and fined.
“[The] West Shore resident, he was arrested for causing an ailment and charged under the Covid-19 Related Measures Act for not wearing a face cover, which carries a $ 230 fine. On top of that, the male he was released with a pledge not to attend the service station and must appear in court for causing a disturbance, ”a statement read.

However, the next day, police were notified of a Facebook video showing the same man abusing a staff member at a Victoria Starbucks earlier in the day on Monday.
Starbucks did not report it to police, but Mounties launched an investigation after seeing the video.
The man was then located and then given another ticket.
Todd Preston with the RCMP adds that the COVID-19 pandemic is a serious health problem and no employee should be verbally abused or put at risk by people who refuse to wear a mask.
“This kind of belligerent and grossly ignorant behavior is unacceptable,” he says.
“Companies have the right to refuse service to anyone who violates their shop policies and in this case the law. We take these reports seriously and encourage companies to report these incidents immediately so that appropriate police action can be taken. “
