The University of St. Joseph (USJ) says it is collaborating with a non-profit organization in New Haven to launch the first Greater Hartford certification programs to prepare students for a career in blockchain technologies.
USJ announced a collaboration with the DappDevs educational developers group on Tuesday to develop two certification programs, as companies expand their use of blockchain, a decentralized digital transaction book.
The school of West Hartford, which began enroll male students this fall, is opening a pre-certified four-week blockchain program for professors, undergraduate or graduate students on February 2nd. The weekly sessions will last three hours.
Weeks later, USJ will begin a six-week certification program from March 5th to April 11th. The program will host two three-hour sessions per week.
Program participants will learn how businesses and individuals use blockchain technology in large commercial financial transactions and individual transactions, school officials said.
Students will also learn how to develop DApps, a decentralized application that uses blockchain for data storage and other functions.
USJ states that certification programs also meet a local and national need for blockchain work.
LinkedIn has recorded a 400% increase in blockchain job offers from 2016 to 2017. The demand for blockchain jobs has increased by 700% from 2017 to 2018, according to the social network platform.
In ConnecticutFintech Ideanomics, based in West Hartford, plans to build a $ 283 million technology hub for blockchain technology and artificial intelligence in UConn's former campus.
Ideanomics, formerly Seven Stars Cloud Group, says it will bring 330 jobs to the campus.
