United States ally ready to equip itself with modern military GPS equipment
Press release from: Los Angeles Air Force Base
Published: Monday 23 November 2020
On September 30, the Space Production Corps of the Center for Missile and Space Systems hit a major milestone when the Global Positioning System (GPS) Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Office received its first MGUE (Military GPS User Equipment) compatible with military code (M code) from Germany.
SMC is facilitating international access and availability of M-Code user equipment as directed by the Secretary of the Air Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense to 58 authorized nations. Germany is expected to receive delivery of its first M-Code receiver in 2021. Further foreign military sales of MGUE are underway. Currently, SMC is engaged with several nations in bilateral M-code prototyping, demonstration and core platform planning. Under a multilateral agreement, MGUE ground receivers are scheduled to be loaned to approved partners for rapid integration and testing into national weapon systems.
M-Code is an upgrade to currently available GPS signals that provides advanced secure positioning, navigation and synchronization (PNT), anti-jam and anti-spoofing performance to provide a more resilient PNT solution. It will improve interoperability with the equipment and operations of our defense partners, while increasing the effectiveness of navigational warfare for allied operations.
SMC is the United States Space Force’s center of excellence for the acquisition and development of military space systems. Providing MGUE to our allies is another example of how SMC provides vital capabilities to the fighter and the world.
