Two new cases of COVID-19 reported Saturday in the Peterborough area

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Peterborough area on Saturday.

This brings the number of active cases in the area to nine, with 146 cases resolved out of 157 confirmed since March.

Health officials have tested about 35,000 people since March, or 22.8% of the population of the city and county of Peterborough, Hiawatha First Nation, and Curve Lake First Nation.

There is an outbreak in Fairhaven that was declared on Oct.31 after a caregiver of one of the long-term care home residents tested positive.

COVID-19 testing continues at the Peterborough Regional Health Center and Northcrest Arena, both by appointment only. To reserve a seat, visit prhc.on.ca and peterboroughpublichealth.ca.

Testing by Peterborough Public Health staff can also be arranged at home by calling 705-743-1000.

Kawartha Lakes Town

There were two new cases reported on Friday in the town of Kawartha Lakes, according to reports from the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit.

This brings the total area, which includes Lindsay, to 185 confirmed since March.

The health unit reports 10 high-risk contacts in the city of Kawartha Lakes.

There was an active case with 167 resolved cases and 32 deaths from confirmed or probable coronavirus cases.

This health unit does not report COVID-19 testing on weekends. The new issues will be available on Monday.

Haliburton

There were no new cases reported in Haliburton on Friday, HKPR reported. The area has had 19 resolved cases and currently has three active cases. There were no deaths.

The health unit reports four high-risk contacts in Haliburton.

Northumberland County

The HKPR Health Unit also covers Northumberland County south and east of Peterborough. The county includes Cobourg, Port Hope, Hastings, Campbellford, Warkworth and Bewdley.

The county has two current cases of COVID-19 out of 50 confirmed cases since March. There are five people currently listed as high-risk content.

There was one death from COVID-19 in Northumberland County, with 48 cases resolved.

On Sunday, the Durham Health Department reported 38 new cases of COVID-19.

There are currently 236 active cases of COVID-19 in the region southwest of Peterborough, bringing the March total to 3,291, with 182 deaths. Health officials say 11 people are hospitalized, four of them in the intensive care unit.

Ajax is Durham’s hotspot, with 97 cases.
