Tunisia: return of Damascus to the "temporal question" of the Arab League

A source to the Tunisian presidency said on Tuesday that "the restoration of the Damascus seat in the Arab League has become a matter of time, linked only to the achievement of an Arab consensus on the invitation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at the summit of the next March in Tunisia ".

The source explained, in exclusive statements to "Erm News", that the Tunisian president Baiji Kayed Sibsi continues through his envoys to the Arab capitals, with the leaders of the countries, and touched them with the initial acceptance of the return of Damascus to the Arab League.

"The current difference is the way to return to the Arab fold, either by sending a Syrian delegate to the work of the thirtieth summit, or by the presence of Bashar Assad himself, the meeting of the leaders," he said.

Tunisia does not bother to announce the "ripening" move, or even to adopt Assad's invitation, raising the embarrassment that Arab leaders could face if they personally took part in the summit after years of suspension of the crisis. belonging to the League of Arab States.

The Tunisian Presidency rejects the announcement of "details of contacts with the Arab leaders on the Syrian dossier" because of the sensitivity of the issue, while Sibsi promised that his country would play a fundamental role in "bringing together the opinions of the Arab brothers" at the 30th summit of March.

This happened in a speech addressed to the nation, on the occasion of the entrance of the new year 2019, and wished the next Arab summit to be an opportunity to join efforts and activate a joint Arab action, as he said.

In November 2011, the League of Arab States suspended Syria by suspending its members, inviting member states to withdraw their ambassadors from Damascus, but the resolution was not applied to the letter and remained a matter linked to the sovereignty of each Arab country.

The Arab countries reopened their diplomatic missions in Damascus, while the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir made a "historical" visit during which he met his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.
