TransLink disables some digital payment options due to “suspicious network activity”

Until further notice, TransLink has disabled some of the digital payment capabilities it provides to passengers due to “suspicious network activity”.

In a statement late Tuesday afternoon, the public transportation authority did not specify the activity, but said there was an impact on its computer systems early this morning.

“Out of an abundance of caution, TransLink has disabled access to some online services that could impact customers,” the release read.

Currently, passengers will not be able to use a credit or debit card at Compass Card vending machines, nor will they be able to use a credit card for the Tap to Pay feature on SkyTrain and SeaBus fare gates.

Passengers can still use cash at Compass vending machines.

Also, the stored value may take longer than usual to load onto a Compass Card.

Additionally, various online services, such as the Trip Planner tool, have been disabled. But the Google Trip Planner remains functional.

There is no impact on public transport services.
